The Patriots
The Patriots were a big part of the American Revolution. The Patriots fought for independence from Great Britain. They lived with their families in the 13 colonies. When the king made all the rules, the Patriots rebelled against him and wanted the colonies to become an independent country. Events took place such as the Boston Tea Party, and colonists stopped buying British goods and products. These actions were lead by the Patriotic leaders and the Sons of Liberty.
The Loyalists
The Loyalists were people who remained loyal to Great Britain and King George III. They lived in all the 13 colonies and came from many different backgrounds. Some Loyalists were poor and some were rich. Loyalists were in great danger. The Patriots viewed them as traitors and since there were more Patriots than Loyalists, the Patriots attacked them. After several incidents, some Loyalist families fled the colonies for their own safety.
