The Intolerable Acts were a group of new laws the British set up to penalize (punish) the colonists. They were passed to get back at the colonists for revolting against (going against) the previous Acts and for the Boston Tea Party. The new set of laws included the Massachusetts Government Act, the Administration of Justice Act, the Quebec Act, the Boston Port Act, which closed Boston Harbor until the ruined tea was paid for, and the Quartering Act, which forced the colonists to let the British live in their houses at no cost to the soldiers.
After much talk and
complaining from the colonists, the King finally decided to let
the colonists trade goods as they wanted. |
