1777 - 1778 George Washington and Valley Forge
|
|
A week before Christmas in 1777 General Washington took his army up to Valley Forge, which was 25 miles west of Philadelphia. Many people thought Valley Forge was not a good choice, but Washington picked it because it was easy to get to and easy to defend. During the winter months, many of the men grew extremely cold and hungry. It was a hard winter because they didn't have enough clothes, equipment and food. However, they kept their spirits high. In the end, their determination and military training led the colonists to their final victory against the British at Yorktown. |
