Battle at Lexington Green

Lexington and Concord were two of the early battles of the American Revolution. On April 19, 1775 the British came into Lexington, Massachusetts, hoping to cross into Concord to find and take away the guns and ammunition stored by the colonists. The Minutemen were ready for the British soldiers. The British came with 237 soldiers (Redcoats), while the colonists only had 50 Minutemen to fight.   When the British arrived, someone fired a shot, then the British soldiers fired at the Minutemen who did not have the manpower to fire back.  The British won this battle.

When the British moved on to Concord, the colonists had prepared themselves by having Paul Revere announce the coming of the British.  For this battle, the colonists used the trees, rocks and other landforms to provide cover for themselves as the British approached.  This time, when shots rang out, the Americans were more prepared, and the British were met by a surprise of gun fire. The battle ended with the colonists' first taste of success.
