Sons Of Liberty

The Sons of Liberty were a group of craftsmen and shopkeepers who were against the Stamp Act. Most of them were blacksmiths or had jobs in the printing field. The Sons of Liberty first met as a group in Boston, Massachusetts in the summer of 1765. They were led by Samuel Adams. These men forced the people who were trying to sell the stamps under the rules of the Stamp Act to resign. They let people know they were against the Stamp Act by writing their opinions in the newspapers. Most of the Sons of Liberty, including Samuel Adams, and his second cousin, John, took part in the Boston Tea Party. In 1772, Sam Adams was asked at a Boston town meeting to select a Committee of Correspondence to state the rights and the complaints of the colonists. Samuel Adams was the most effective leader in Massachusetts.
