OFFICE OF THE SUPERINTENDENT
Welcome to Community Consolidated School
District 146, Tinley Park, Oak Forest and Orland Park.
On behalf of the Board of Education, staff,
students and community members, I welcome you to our school
district, where we aspire to achieve “Learning for All (by
doing) Whatever it Takes!” In order to make progress toward
that vision, our school district has adopted the following
four goals:
Goal 1: To constantly improve learning for all
students.
Goal 2: To enhance positive and productive learning
environments for all.
Goal 3: To improve two-way communication throughout the
schools and their
school communities.
Goal 4: To maximize the use of our financial and human
resources.
In order to achieve these goals, each of our
schools has developed a School Improvement Plan (SIP) that is
aligned to the goals, yet responsive to each school’s
individual circumstances and needs. The Board of Education has
provided the valuable resource of time for staff to work
toward the accomplishment of these goals by incorporating SIP
planning time into the school calendar. On those days,
administrators and faculty work together to develop, implement
and evaluate school improvement plans.
The district has three long-range planning
committees. The Program Committee, Facilities Committee, and
Finance Committee are made up of teachers, parents,
administrators, Board members and community members. These
committees represent a key component to the district’s
planning efforts and provide an opportunity for meaningful
shareholder involvement in present programs and future
planning for School District 146. Accomplishments include the
creation of academic and behavioral standards that are
integrated into classroom studies; implementation of School
Improvement Planning Days to give staff a consistent, extended
block of time to focus on increasing student achievement;
updating curriculum in the areas of mathematics, science,
language arts and social studies, and an introduction of art
education into the K-5 curriculum. During the 07/08 school
year, the committees approved the construction of a new Prek-5
school on the Fulton School site, which will combine the
student populations of Fulton School and Sandidge School.
Construction is slated for the summer of 2008 and will
continue for the entire 2008-09 school year.
As with any public school district, our efforts
to achieve learning for all of our students require a strong
partnership between the schools and the community. In District
146, all of the shareholders participate in creating an
excellent environment for students to learn and develop into
responsible and responsive citizens.
